Kennedy's last hurrah
A lion of the Democratic Party passes the torch to the new generation of leaders.

From failing hands, Senator Ted Kennedy passed the torch as the liberal leader of the Democratic Party to the new generation of leaders. Crippled by terminal brain cancer, the 76-year-old senior statesman summoned his dwindling reserves of physical and emotional strength to attend the party's convention in Denver on Monday night.
The last surviving member of the Kennedy brothers delivered the speech of his life.
"When John Kennedy thought of going to the moon he didn't say, 'It's too far to get there, we shouldn't even try.' Our people answered his call and rose to the challenge," Kennedy said. "This November the torch will be passed again to a new generation of Americans," he said. "The work begins anew, the hope rises again, and the dream lives on."
American politics will never be the same. He will be sadly missed. His dream lives on.
