Dirty tricks will not help Hillary

Circulating picture of Obama wearing a turban is aimed at inflaming passions.

Not that the image of US Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama wearing traditional "Somali" clothing out of respect is any different from any other American wearing traditional clothes of countries they've visited as a way to show respect and appreciation.

But to use that image against the Illinois senator, and in the context of the presidential race, is clearly indicative of his rival New York senator Hillary Clinton's policies and dirty tactics.

Circulating a picture of Obama wearing what looks like a turban is aimed at inflaming passions and making him look different, if not un-American. The intention was clear - to sway mainstream voters away from Obama, who is reportedly leading the national polls in Texas.

The fact that he has won 11 consecutive primaries and Hillary has been written off by many makes the latest exploitation of an old picture all the more suspicious. It gives the impression that the former first lady will do or say anything to get elected.

The American public may take note of Hillary's smear campaign and also look beyond it as far as Obama is concerned. Hopefully, there will be a strong reaction in the US against this shameful trick by Hillary's team to stain Obama's public image.
