Daring raid raises security questions
Dubai has been one of safest cities in the world. And it remains so. But the daring Wafi City raid raises a number of questions, most of which are about how safe our malls are and the need to reconsider the security measure taken in the city, and the country in general.
Dubai has been one of safest cities in the world. And it remains so. But the daring Wafi City raid raises a number of questions, most of which are about how safe our malls are and the need to reconsider the security measure taken in the city, and the country in general.
Being a cosmopolitan metropolis and with its amazing economic success, Dubai naturally is exposed to all sorts of security breaches. Criminal gangs exploit the tolerant atmosphere and the freedom of entry and movement to carry out their criminal activities.
We all know it is a big task to balance both the burdens of success and the existence of sophisticated criminal groups. And so far, Dubai Police has been doing a great job.
It is internationally known for its competence. However, many of us wonder about the safety of the shopping centres in light of the recent robberies in more than one mall.
For example, we wonder why a high profile store, like that raided in Wafi, has not installed adequate security systems.
The police can help enhance security in the mall by perhaps initiating joint security measures to deter criminals and assure merchants and shoppers.
A more visible police presence might have become a necessity after all.
