Comprehensive policy is needed to end problems faced in Abu Dhabi
Any motorist who has tried to find a parking spot within the confines of the city of Abu Dhabi has experienced frustration, delays and most likely, no place to go.
Any motorist who has tried to find a parking spot within the confines of the city of Abu Dhabi has experienced frustration, delays and most likely, no place to go.
Despite the authorities' best efforts to regulate parking, chaos is the norm. The most recent example of this occurs in the Tourist Club Area as residents wake up to find vehicles parked in the middle of the main road.
There is no short-term solution to Abu Dhabi's parking woes. A comprehensive public transport system is needed. That is under development.
Parking laws must be strictly enforced and authorities need to use the full range of deterrents to prevent chaotic parking on the streets.
The city also must plan for high-rise parking lots as is commonplace in Europe and North America. And all future commercial and residential developments within the city must have adequate provision for parking. In the meantime, good luck finding a spot!
