Be wise before the event
Do look out for fake websites and emails and attachments from unknown sources.
A security risk on the internet's addressing system was found by accident and resolved before any damage was done. Because of the complexities involved in trying to take any advantage of the glitch, and that it was only discovered through happenstance, it is believed that anyone who may have taken advantage of the minor malfunction would most likely have been unaware of its existence before the problem was rectified, so IT experts believe. Equally, as the breach affected domain name system (DNS) servers, it is unlikely to affect internet users in the UAE as the providers of DNS are etisalat and du.
However, it is good to take the opportunity to remind readers to always be on the alert for fake websites and emails, and never to open any attachment from any source if you do not know who has sent it. Additionally, with the popularity of blogs, Facebook, YouTube and other similar sites it is as well to remember the old adage about supplying information on the internet. That is, never reveal any information that you would not wish to be seen in your local newspaper. Once information is given to anyone, it takes only a matter of moments for the whole world to know your secret.
