Yemen needs a blueprint for a constructive future

All Yemeni groups must have a stake in rebuilding the nation and keeping outside interference at bay

Gulf News

There is a danger of Yemen sliding into chaos given the recent developments in the country. What the country is in dire need of today is to bring all the forces together and draw a blueprint that will pave the way for a constructive future.

It has been some time now that Yemen seems to have drifted away from the path towards nation-building. This is a long-term process and requires all groups in the country to be engaged in it. It is also a process that will require clear objectives and steps that can be taken in order to bring about stability. The current status quo is dangerous given the fact that there is a lack of an agenda that would initiate the democratic process.

What is more alarming though is how this political vacuum has turned the country into an arena for various parties to use it to their own advantage. The Yemeni government has recently released information about the seizure of a large quantity of sophisticated missiles. The government has stated that the weapons were bound for rebels in the northwestern frontier.

There is no question that there are many dangers facing Yemen today — the most challenging is the interference of other parties in its internal affairs. Given this, there is an urgent need to bring all efforts together in order to move forward.
