New York: Former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani has withdrawn from the Republican race for the US presidency.
Giuliani made his announcement after getting only 15 per cent of the primary votes in Florida. Arizona Senator John McCain led in the vote count with 36 per cent.
Giuliani said he was supporting McCain, whom he described as an “American hero''.
"John McCain is the most qualified candidate to be the next commander in chief of the United States," Giuliani said.
Earlier on Wednesday, Democrat John Edwards also left the race after failing to win a single party nomination contest.
