Michelle Obama puts in case for husband
The wife of US presidential hopeful Barack Obama addressed critics of her patriotism at the Democratic National Convention.

Colorado: The wife of US presidential hopeful Barack Obama addressed critics of her patriotism at the Democratic National Convention on Monday.
Obama's wife, Michelle, introduced herself as a sister, a mother and a "wife who loves my husband and believes he will be an extraordinary president."
Michelle had stirred controversy earlier in the campaign season when she said she was really proud of the United States for the "first time" in her life.
On Monday, Michelle stressed her love for her country, saying her "piece of the American Dream is a blessing hard won by those who came before me."
"All of us driven by a simple belief that the world as it is just won't do—that we have an obligation to fight for the world as it should be. That is the thread that connects our hearts. That is the thread that runs through my journey and Barack's journey and so many other improbable journeys that have brought us here tonight, where the current of history meets this new tide of hope," she said. "That is why I love this country."
Barack Obama watched his wife's speech from Kansas City, Missouri, where he is scheduled to campaign Tuesday.
Barack addressed delegates in a short message via satellite at the end of his wife's speech.
"Now you know why I asked her out so many times, even though she said no. You want a persistent president," he joked.
