Washington: Senator John Edwards is to officially withdraw from the US presidential race on Wednesday.
The former North Carolina whose bid for the Democratic nomination was based on helping the middle classes will make an announcement about his withdrawal through a speech in New Orleans at 10 pm, said a campaign official.
In the Democratic race for U.S president, Edwards did not win a single contest and lags behind in the opinion polls against front-runners Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton.
The South Carolina millionaire was going back to New Orleans, the place he began his campaign with a theme of fighting poverty in America.
