McCartney infuriated by 'eco-car horror'
Sir Paul McCartney is said to be furious after his new eco-friendly car was flown 11,265km from Japan.
London: Sir Paul McCartney is said to be furious after his new eco-friendly car was flown 11,265km from Japan.
The former Beatle, 65, ordered the £84,000 (Dh602,082) Lexus LS600H - a hybrid vehicle - to be shipped to Britain. But it was instead flown to Heathrow this month, creating a carbon footprint almost 100 times larger.
Environmental firm CO2balance.com said the flight's emission of 38,050kg of carbon dioxide was the equivalent of driving the car around the world six times. The three-week boat journey would have emitted 297kg.
A source told the Daily Mirror: "Paul was offered a Lexus as a gift and ordered the hybrid limo because it helps to reduce emissions.
"But he'll be horrified after learning it was delivered by plane. Paul has always campaigned for green issues and he can't understand why anyone would send an enormous car from Japan to Britain on a plane.
"He didn't have anything to do with the delivery, that was all organised by the company."
CO2balance.com said it "couldn't believe" the car's delivery by air.
A spokesman for McCartney said the car was a gift from Lexus.
Lexus refused to comment. The luxury car company sponsored McCartney's 2005 tour of the United States.
