Karadzic calls his wife after 6 years
Ljiljana Karadzic, wife of war crimes suspect Radovan Karadzic, on Saturday, described her first contact with him in six years.
London: Ljiljana Karadzic, wife of war crimes suspect Radovan Karadzic, on Saturday, described her first contact with him in six years. She claimed after receiving a telephone call from his cell in The Hague: "It was like talking to someone who returned from the dead."
The former Bosnian Serb leader was allowed to call his family as he faces 11 charges at the war crimes tribunal.
Mrs Karadzic added: "He sounded calm. However, it's only him who knows how he feels."
Her husband, 63, is reported to have said: "I've arrived. I'm alive. I've just passed the medical exams and they've allowed me one telephone call."
The couple had apparently been out of touch while Karadzic was in hiding in Belgrade as a faith healer.
Karadzic feared UN investigators had tapped all his family's phones in their bid to bring him to justice.
A local journalist was in the family home at Pale, Bosnia, and said he had witnessed the call. Karadzic is believed to have said: "Ljiljana is that you? How are you? How are the kids? Grandchildren?" As he ended the call, he said: "Say hello to everyone. I can't wait to see you."
The family are planning to visit him within the next ten days.
