Charities miss out on City millionaire's dole

London: The former wife of City millionaire Sir Paul Judge yesterday told a court her husband failed to pay charities £14 million (Dh75.78 million) from their divorce settlement.
Lady Judge, 61, said a "non-deliberate misrepresentation" had led to the charities missing out on the cash after the 2002 split. She wants the divorce order satisfied because it had been "undermined" by the new developments leaving the outcome "not just or fair".
Both Sir Peter, 58, and his American-born first wife were in the Court of Appeal for the start of a two-day hearing but sat as far apart as possible.
Sir Paul made £45 million when he sold his company, which had formerly been part of Cadbury Typhoo.
He was director-general of the Conservative Central Office for three years, an adviser to the Cabinet Office and has ambitions to be Lord Mayor of London.
He married his first wife in 1983 and they had two sons, now aged 24 and 23. Since the divorce, Sir Paul has remarried the former Barbara Thomas.
The court has heard that in the original divorce order much of the couple's wealth was agreed to be donated to a charitable foundation. But Sir Paul has argued that much of it was swallowed up by taxes and penalties.
