London: Security measures surrounding David Cameron are under review after a jogger evaded his armed bodyguards yesterday (Monday) and bumped into him.

Dean Farley, 28, almost knocked the Prime Minister off his feet before being taken away by police officers. Cameron was unhurt after the incident in Leeds. However, it exposed gaps in security around him at a time when the terrorist threat level has been raised in response to fears about attacks by extremists.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed it would review the incident. Farley was held by officers for 15 minutes before being allowed on his way after the incident outside Leeds Civic Hall, where Cameron had been attending the launch of the HS3 high-speed rail project.

Chris Wilson, a local government officer, who saw what happened, said: “It looked like Cameron sidestepped him and he was tackled by the person behind. Then he [Cameron] was in the car and the car was gone.”

Mark Pritchard, a Conservative MP, said: “This was a clear breach of security and could have been far more sinister in outcome.”

The Prime Minister’s official spokesman said Cameron expressed his “gratitude and confidence” in his protection officers.
