Vice-president denies buying mansion for girlfriend in posh area
De Castro says text messages spreading rumour are black propaganda.
Manila: Vice-President Noli de Castro has denied allegations that he bought a mansion worth 200 million pesos (Dh454,545) for a girlfriend in a posh village in Makati City financial district.
"These are obviously a demolition job, a black propaganda against me by those who feel that I am a threat to them," said De Castro about text messages spreading the rumour.
"The text messages are malicious and baseless," said De Castro, adding, "I have no girlfriend or mistress. I am happily married. My conscience is clean."
His wife Arlene Sinsuat, was a former executive of a TV network.
Another text message identified his alleged girl friend as a top official of the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council. A radio report said that De Castro requested reporters not to name the woman because she was not his girlfriend, and that she is happily married with children. Early this year, De Castro denied his reported romantic liaison with the same government official.
Another text message claimed that De Castro had bought a brand new Mercedes Benz car as a gift for another mistress. She was identified as living in Fernwood, a posh subdivision in suburban Quezon City.
Rivals have been recycling old issues, said de Castro, adding that he has been attracting hate campaigns against him because of the 2010 presidential elections.
