Manila: An earthquake measuring 6.0 magnitude in the Richter scale occurred 100 kilometres off Palauig, Zambales in central Luz9on and 230 kilometres northwest of Manila at 8:27am, followed by eight weaker jolts from past eight in the morning to past six in the evening, a government agency said.

“There was no damage inland because of the quake occurred offshore,” said Phivolcs head Renato Solidum, adding that there was no tsunami warning following the quake.

Although there were no intensities felt in nearby areas, there were, however, eight weaker quakes that occurred near the origin of the quake, said Solidum.

A quake measuring 3.1 in magnitude occurred 94 kilometre off Palauig at 8:41am; 2.9 magnitude, 103 kilometre off Palaugi at 9am; 4.6 magnitude, 93 kilometre off Palauig at 9:27am; 1.8 magnitude, 106 kilometre off Agno, Pangasinan at 1:12pm; 3.5 magnitude 61 kilometre off Palauig at 1:18pm; 4.2 magnitude, 105 kilometre off Palauig at 1:32pm; 3.5 magnitude, 98 kilometre off Palauig at 4:37pm; and 2.4 magnitude 78 kilometre off Palauig at 6:36pm.

This is a sign that the quake could get nearer Palauig or Agno in Pangasinan, said Solidum.
