Itogon: Two miners were rescued alive out of a flooded mine shaft a week after they were trapped underground when Typhoon Hagupit lashed northern Luzon.
"The miners, Ngitngit Pagulayan and Jore Pano, were taken out alive yesterday afternoon, after rescuers have extracted water from the flooded tunnel of Benguet Mines Corporation," Itogon Governor Nestor Fongluan said.
"At first, they were seen as mere mud-washed bodies. They were alive, but weak and were given warm blankets, oxygen, and warm food, then brought to hospital for treatment," said Fongluan, adding, "They have stayed on a ledge which kept them safe from the flooded tunnel."
