Manila: A Cebu City woman has filed a civil case against her fiancé after he left her for another girl moments before a priest could solemnise their wedding.
Lilibeth Gaviola, an accountant, appealed to the Regional Trial Court to insist Ryan Sesante bear the expenses she incurred for the December 22, 2007 wedding.
According to a report by the daily Sunstar Cebu, Gaviola wants Sesante to pay her the amount of 500,000 pesos (Dh45,299) representing the expenses she had incurred in addition to moral damages and attorney's fees.
Gaviola said Sesante's decision to renege on his promise to marry her caused her humilation in front of her friends and relatives.
Gaviola said her "shameful story" had been the talk of the city and had even become the subject of several local radio commentaries.
"Plaintiff has no more choice except to go to court and seek therein relief for the injustice and pain she suffered at the hands of the defendant," Gaviola was quoted by the report as saying.
In an account she gave to court, Gaviola said she and Sesante had met in college and were engaged on June 17, 2007.
