Manila: A Japanese tourist is in detention for allegedly punching a Filipina as the two were waiting for their bags at the baggage carousel at Ninoy Aquino International Airport in suburban Pasay City on Tuesday.
Isao Tanaka, 65, was taken into custody by immigration police after Esperanza Kristina Garcia-Codilla accused him of punching her as she waited for her turn at the baggage carousel after arriving from a trip abroad.
Garcia-Codilla, a lawyer and a member of a well-known political family, complained she sustained a bruise after Tanaka punched her at the back for reasons still unclear.
Immigration Commissioner Marcelino Libanan said Tanaka faced possible deportation for being an "undesirable alien". He said Tanaka "could also face the possibility of being permanently barred from entering the country".
