Manila: A senior transport department executive was wounded in an ambush in suburban Pasig City on Wednesday, as officials try to determine possible motives for the latest attack targeting government officials.
Assistant Secretary Elmer Soneja of the Dep-artment of Transportation and Communications, was on his way to his office in Mandaluyong City when a group of gunmen ambushed him at around 9.30am, police said.
Soneja, an engineer by profession, was aboard his reinforced-glass armoured pick-up truck when at least three gunmen with pistols opened fire as they passed Santa Lucia village Supterintendent Ramon de Jesus, city police chief said.
Following the attack, two of the gunmen casually walked off after the shooting while two others rode in tandem as they fled from the scene, Jesus said.
