Manila: More than 50 former top Philippine government officials urged President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo's cabinet to resign on Sunday over a corruption scandal.
A Senate probe into allegations of $130 million worth of kickbacks in a state telecoms deal with China, allegedly involving Arroyo's husband, has revived calls for her ouster.
"We call on all those who can no longer endure this wrongful governance with its structures of evil and unmoderated greed: it is time to cut clean, it is time to go," read the statement, signed by the former officials.
Opposition groups are planning anti-government rallies next week and on February 25, the anniversary of the overthrow of former dictator Ferdinand Marcos.
On Sunday, former president Corazon Aquino joined around 2,500 people in a Mass in Manila to honour Rodolfo Lozada, a former official who testified in the Senate inquiry.
Lozada lost his job and has sought refuge in a school since deciding to testify at the Senate inquiry.
