Philippine National Police Chief (PNP), Director General Jesus A. Verzosa suspended all foreign trips of policemen after Russian customs agents confiscated 105,000 euros (Dh575,000) from an outgoing police officer last Saturday.
Manila: Philippine National Police Chief (PNP), Director General Jesus A. Verzosa suspended all foreign trips of policemen after Russian customs agents confiscated 105,000 euros (Dh575,000) from an outgoing police officer last Saturday.
The amount was part of an allowance given to a police delegation that attended an international police conference for six days in Saint Petersburg.
The new rules were announced as PNP Director Eliseo de la Paz, a comptroller and disbursement officer for the delegation to the 77th Interpol General Assembly in Saint Petersburg remained waiting in Russia for documentation from the Philippine government.
On Thursday, Interior Secretary Ronaldo Puno said that the Philippines authorities have already sent a certification to Russia that the 105,000 euros being carried by the Philippine delegation after the end of the police assembly belonged to the Philippines government.
"The amount was legitimately brought into Russia and its excess should be allowed to be brought back by the Philippines delegation to the Philippines," said Puno.
