Cotobato City: Philippine police said on Saturday they found a homemade bomb near the house of North Cotabato Mayor Lito Piñol.
Chief Superintendent Felizario Serapio said the bomb found on Fridays was made from a mortar shell and a blasting cap.
The bomb was successfully detonated and police have launched an investigation, Serapio said.
Piñol and his brother, North Cotabato Vice Governor Emmanuel Piñol, led a strong opposition against a deal between the government and the separatist Moro Islamic Liberation Front aimed at expanding the Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao.
