Manila: A congressman has filed a bill for the printing of Philippine tourist spots on postage stamps, saying this would market the country as a tourist destination.

Congressman Eric Olivarez said his proposed Philippine Tourism Stamp Act would be a boost for the country’s tourism industry.

If approved by both houses of Congress, the Department of Tourism (DOT) and the Tourism Promotion Board (TPB) will identify the tourism spots to be promoted on stamps, said Olivarez, adding that a budget will be allotted to the Philippine Postal Service for printing of the proposed stamps.

“Tourism authorities around the world concede that the Philippines has an abundance of tourist areas of unspeakable beauty, some of them have been developed and others are already beautiful in their natural state,” said Olivarez.

Several countries have not yet lifted advisories that prevent their respective nationals from going to provinces where terror attacks and kidnapping commonly occur.

The Philippines is part of Asia-Pacific’s Ring of Fire where volcanic eruptions, earthquake, and floods are common.
