Three blasts spread panic in Lahore
Series of blasts within span of few minutes in the highly secured area of the famous Qaddafi Cricket Stadium jolted Lahore on Saturday night.
Lahore: Series of blasts within span of few minutes in the highly secured area of the famous Qaddafi Cricket Stadium jolted Lahore on Saturday night.
Though no loss of life was reported until late night, a few people are reported injured. Police said the three explosions were of low intensity but they spread panic in the city.
The first explosion happened in the Punjab Institute of Language near the Al Hamara Cultural Complex during cultural and musical performances by local and international artists as part of International Peforming Arts Festival.
The second explosion was reported within a few minutes at the main gate of Al Hamra Cultural Complex while the people were running for their life from the crowded cultural complex.
The third explosion occurred near the police barricades at about 10 pm UAE time while the police and rangers were trying to cordon off the area and ambulances were ferrying the injured. It further scared the people including the policemen who also ran for their lives. No confirmed reports of the number of any deaths of injuries could be obtained as there was a complete panic in the area.
A police official told Gulf News that there were hundreds of people present in the area at the time of explosions and a lot people were injured during stampede.
Meanwhile, an explosion was also reported in the F-10 sector of Islamabad injuring at least two people.
Earlier, Rehman Malik, Advisor to the Prime Minister on Interior Affairs had told President Asif Ali Zardari on Friday that he feared attacks in Karachi from Al Qaeda militant outfit Lashkar-i-Jhangvi."Al Qaida has been using Lashkar-i-Jhangvi, Sipah-i-Sahaba and Tehrik-i-Taliban for carrying out its activities," he added.
