Terror policy review team to be set up next week
A special parliamentary committee will be formed next week to pursue implementation of the recent unanimous call for revision of policy on combating terrorism, parliamentary sources said.
Islamabad: A special parliamentary committee will be formed next week to pursue implementation of the recent unanimous call for revision of policy on combating terrorism, parliamentary sources said.
A resolution for policy review was adopted by the parliament last month after a series of in-camera sittings of the lower and upper houses during which the military briefed lawmakers about ongoing operations against militants in northwestern province of the country. It had authorised the National Assembly Speaker Dr Fehmida Mirza to form the special committee in consultation with parliamentary leaders of both houses.
Peace and stability
According to the mandate given by the parliament, the special committee would periodically review the implementation of the roadmap given to the government for establishment of peace and stability.
The parliament's consensus resolution had called for urgent policy review and initiation of talks with those willing to abide by the constitution of the country and the rule of law for conflict management and resolution. Sources at the parliament said Speaker Fehmida Mirza has called a meeting of the parliamentary leaders on Monday with a view to forming the special committee.
