Attack was in restive part of the city where militants hide out, especially members of the Taliban

Karachi: A paramilitary rangers post was attacked twice on Saturday at the volatile Katti Pahari area injuring at least eight people including two soldiers and a police officer.

Police officials said a grenade was thrown on the post before noon but no one was harmed. Soon after the first attack, a number of motorcyclists attacked the same post with another hand grenade inflicting injuries to the rangers, police and passers-by.

Witnesses said the second bomb had been planted at the post and thus its intensity was greater than the first one. The blasts were heard across the city.

Katti Pahari is a sensitive part of the city near the areas where militants hide out, especially members of the Taliban.

It is not known who was behind the attacks but the rangers have been cracking down on the hideouts of militants and other outlaws.

On Friday morning, the rangers started a heavy operation against the militants and arrested many suspects from the Northern Bypass, Toll Plaza and the adjacent areas. Some 400 soldiers and officers took part in the operations.

In one operation, the rangers arrested a man called Nasir, also know as Nachu who confessed to the murders of at least five men. He belonged to the Durvaish Group of the area.

Law enforcement agencies are often the targets of criminal and militant groups who try to retaliate against any police campaign. In 2012 more than 150 law enforcers were killed.
