Islamabad: Politician Sardar Mehtab Ahmad Abbasi from the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-N party was appointed new governor of northwestern Khyber Pakthtunkhwa province on Thursday,
President Mamnoon Hussain appointed him on the advice of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
Earlier, Abbasi tendered his resignation from his provincial assembly seat in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa after his nomination by the federal government for the gubernatorial post.
He succeeds outgoing governor Engineer Shaukatullah who resigned on Tuesday.
Abbasi is to take oath as governor Friday in Peshawar, capital of the province, where a coalition led by Imran Khan’s party, Pakistan Tehreek e Insaaf (Justice Movement), is in power.
