Islamabad: A national convention of Pakistani lawyers in Lahore on Saturday resolved to launch a "long march" programme or street protest from June 10 to press for the reinstatement of the judges deposed last year by President Pervez Musharraf.
The convention, organised by the Pakistan Bar Council (PBC), also decided to hold a series of lawyers' conventions in cities across the country.
PBC vice-chairman Faiz Rehman Syed and Supreme Court bar president Aitzaz Ahsan said sacked chief justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry would address the conventions for which a schedule would be announced later.
Hunger strike
They said hunger strike camps would also be set up during the campaign.
The city from where the long march programme would start would be announced later.
Speakers at the convention flayed the failure of the ruling coalition to fulfil the reinstatement pledge Pakistan Peoples Party co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari and Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) leader Nawaz Sharif had jointly made in March.
Five days ago, the PML-N ministers resigned from the federal Cabinet over the non-reinstatement of the judges sacked by Musharraf.
The resignations have not been accepted, with the PPP leadership saying a resolution would be brought before a joint session of the two houses of the parliament soon for the restoration of the judges.
