Islamabad: Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf has said he was maintaining a regular behind-the-scenes contact with Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh over the Kashmir issue.
He said they both understood the need of a compromise to see a solution of the dispute. "Yes, there is talk on Kashmir. Let me assure you that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and I are trying our best to move forward.
"We want to move forward on Kashmir and we are both prepared to step backwards and it means compromise. Everyone should understand," a local daily quoted Musharraf as saying while speaking to reporters last evening in Islamabad.
Musharraf underscored that the duo's effort was aimed at making headway towards the resolution of the dispute.
Calling for media support on the Kashmir issue, he expressed the hope that something substantive would be achieved during the Indian leader's visit to Pakistan.
