Islamabad: Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf has cancelled his trip to China to attend the Beijing Olympics opening ceremony, the foreign ministry said on Thursday.
Pakistani Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani will instead attend on Pakistan's behalf.
“It has been decided that the prime minister will now go to China," foreign ministry spokesman Mohammad Sadiq said.
The ruling coalition earlier on Thursday agreed to launch impeachment proceedings against Musharraf. An official announcement is expected later.
