Gilani orders release of Balochistan leader
Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has ordered the release of former Balochistan province chief minister Sardar Akhtar Mengal, who has been under detention for seven months on different charges including treason.
Islamabad: Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has ordered the release of former Balochistan province chief minister Sardar Akhtar Mengal, who has been under detention for seven months on different charges including treason.
Gilani issued the directive while addressing a meeting of the Balochistan Cabinet yesterday in provincial capital Quetta, during his first visit to the restive southern province after assuming office.
Gilani directed the authorities to withdraw all cases registered against the Balochistan National Party leader at the provincial or federal level.
Gilani said military operations in the province had been put on hold for the time-being till a strategy is finalised to address the problems of the region.
