Islamabad: Fierce clashes between rival ethnic groups in the Pakistani city of Karachi have left 13 dead and 50 wounded on Sunday.
Fighting broke out between the city's majority community of Urdu-speakers known as mohajirs, most of whom are descendents of migrants from India at the time of the partition, and ethnic Pashtuns from northwest Pakistan.
“Thirteen people have been killed in the violence between the two ethnic groups," Karachi police chief Wasim Ahmed said.
Police have been ordered to shoot troublemakers on sight, he said.
Angry mobs attacked shops and set fire to numerous cars in different parts of the city and 100 people had been arrested.
Rival activists clashed in several incidents on Saturday which continued to Sunday, police said.
