Islamabad: Pakistan's beleaguered President Pervez Musharraf has summoned the National Assembly on Monday on the advice of the government.
Pakistan's ruling coalition is set to kick off a constitutional process to impeach Musharraf on Monday, while the former army chief's allies appeared to set conditions for supporting him.
The assemblies of all four provinces are also expected to meet this week.
The announcement came as Pakistan Muslim League-Q (PML-Q) President Shujaat Hussain and parliamentary opposition leader Pervez Elahi met Musharraf on Saturday and urged him not to dissolve the parliament using his constitutional powers.
According to political sources, the two leaders told Musharraf that a dissolution of assemblies would not be backed by the PML-Q. The party secretary-general Mushahid Hussain told a television channel that Musharraf had only two options - to face impeachment or to resign.
The allies, however, assured Musharraf that the party would stand by him to scuttle the impeachment bid.
