Islamabad: At least 30 suspected militants have been killed in fresh air strikes in the ongoing five-month old military offensive in Pakistan’s North Waziristan tribal region, the Inter-Services Public Relations said on Friday.

A number of insurgent hideouts were destroyed in Datakhel area of North Waziristan, where the military operation code-named Zarab-e-Azab has been going on since mid-June.

According to the military’s public relations wing, foreign militants were also among those killed in the latest air raids.

The offensive has displaced around one million tribal people who have been mostly sheltered in camps in northwestern Khyber Pakthtunkhwa province.

The military says it has cleared 90 per cent of the tribal region and more than a thousand militants have been killed so far.

The security forces have also carried out operations in Khyber Agency tribal area in recent weeks, reportedly killing more than 100 militants.
