Geneva: The United Nations said that Haiti's government has declared the search and rescue phase for survivors of the earthquake over after teams failed to find anyone alive beneath the rubble for the third day in a row.
Elisabeth Byrs, a spokeswoman for UN's humanitarian coordination office, told The Associated Press that the government took the decision to abandon the search for survivors on Friday afternoon, ten days after the 7.0-magnitude quake hit close to the capital Port-au-Prince.
Byrs said some 132 people have been pulled alive from beneath collapsed buildings by international search and rescue teams since the January 12 disaster.
In its latest report on the situation in Haiti, the UN said the government has confirmed 111,481 confirmed deaths in four parts of the country.
