Thai military puts 2,000 troops on alert for major rally

Bangkok: The Thai military has put 2,000 troops on alert ahead of a major protest, the army said on Sunday.

The anti-government protest group People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) is threatening to march on the national Parliament to block a session on Monday.

The PAD is calling the march on parliament "its final battle" to oust the government.

In continuing violence, a grenade blast on Saturday wounded eight Thai protesters inside the Thai prime minister's office, said Chamlong Srimuang, a PAD co-leader.

Two PAD guards were seriously wounded in the attack, police said.
