A strong earthquake measuring 6.2 on the Richter scale with a depth of 30 miles (48 km) struck Panama overnight, the US Geological Survey reported on Wednesday.

The quake hit 35 miles (56 km) west southwest of David, Panama, at 0611 GMT. There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries, the USGS said.
