Six killed in fresh Kenyan clashes
In downtown Nairobi, police fired teargas to disperse scores of supporters of President Mwai Kibaki who took to the streets to back his disputed re-election.
Nairobi: Six people were killed in clashes in Kenya's Rift Valley, police said on Tuesday ahead of the arrival of former UN chief Kofi Annan to mediate in the conflict.
The latest deaths brought to at least 63 the number of people killed since Wednesday. A father and his two sons were among those killed in the latest violence.
In downtown Nairobi, police fired teargas to disperse scores of supporters of President Mwai Kibaki who took to the streets to back his disputed re-election.
Police chased the supporters, who had been chanting "Lead on, Kibaki!", into shops and nearby alleys.
Meanwhile, opposition chief Raila Odinga's Orange Democratic Movement has called for demonstrations on Thursday, which police have vowed to block.
Odinga and his supporters are protesting Kibaki's re-election, which they say was flawed.
