Tibet: The Olympic torch relay was literally on top of the world on Thursday morning, after the eternal flame reached the top of Mount Everest.
Chinese climbers reached the summit of the highest point on earth at around 5.20am (UAE time) where they appeared live on Chinese television.
The climbers – who included Tibetan women – unraveled the Olympic and the Chinese national flags at the summit.
One of the team said: "We have lit this torch on the top of the world for harmony and peace," said one of the mountaineers.
