Malaysia tightens security for torch relay
Protesters in Malaysia face arrest if they try to disrupt the Olympic torch relay in the capital, police warned on Monday.
Kuala Lumpur: Protesters in Malaysia face arrest if they try to disrupt the Olympic torch relay in the capital, police warned on Monday.
At least 1,000 police, including an elite special-operations squad, will be deployed along the relay route that starts at the Freedom Square and ends at the Petronas Towers.
The torch relay has drawn a wave of anti-China protests during stopovers in Europe and the Americas following Beijing's crackdown last month on protests in Tibet.
The flame will travel from Kuala Lumpur to Jakarta and then the Australian capital of Canberra on April 24.
Australian organisers on Monday said they were re-routing the flame from the centre of Canberra to avoid demonstrators.
