Nairobi: Kenya's opposition party is suspending talks with President Mwai Kibaki's party until they agree to share power fairly, party officials said on Tuesday.

Speaking to a news conference, Anyang Nyongo, secretary-general of the Orange Democratic Movement, said: "We have resolved that negotiations ... be suspended until (Kibaki's Party of National Unity) fully recognises the 50/50 power-sharing arrangement and the principle of portfolio balance."

Kenya is in the process of establishing its new government since a power-sharing deal was signed in March.
