Fire breaks out in Myanmar's embassy in Thailand

Last updated:

Bangkok: A fire broke out at Myanmar's embassy in Thailand, forcing the visa section to be temporarily closed on Monday, adding to existing frustration of aid workers waiting to be allowed entry into the cyclone-hit country.

Flames and smoke could be seen spewing from the compund situated in Bangkok. The fire was put out in an hour, and no injuries were reported.

The cause has not yet been confirmed, but a fire brigade official said it was likely caused by faulty wiring.

The embassy's visa section was temporarily closed, but had reopened by afternoon.

Since the cyclone struck on May 2, aid workers and journalists have frequented the embassy attempting to be granted access to the isolationist nation.
