- Hundreds of people gathered in Indonesia to remember the victims of the tsunami that hit the country in 2004.
Jakarta: A 6.7 magnitude earthquake shook eastern Indonesian islands on Saturday, meteorologists said. There were no immediate reports of injury or damage.
A later US Geological Survey report registered the quake, in the Banda Sea, at a magnitude of 6.0.
Indonesian authorities said there was no tsunami warning.
Indonesia on Saturday marked the fifth anniversary of the Asian tsunami that left 230,000 people dead.
The devastating December 26, 2004 tsunami struck a dozen countries around the Indian Ocean rim.
Indonesia’s loss of about 167,000 accounted for more than half the total death toll.
