Istanbul: A Turkish news agency says the bodies of 13 illegal immigrants, mostly Pakistanis, have been found in a field on the outskirts of Istanbul.
Dogan news agency said on Wednesday that police found the corpses a day earlier.
The thirteen suffocated to death in a packed truck, Turkish police said on Wednesday.
Police found the bodies dumped in a field on the outskirts of Istanbul in the Kucukcekmece district.
The truck was transporting 138 illegal immigrants through Istanbul, Turkey's largest city, a local official told the state-run news agency Anatolian.
Television broadcasted images of a hilly rock-strewn area closed off by police near a narrow two-lane road. Media reports said the majority of the dead were Pakistani.
Police are investigating the incident.
Thousands of immigrants from Asia and Africa enter Turkey illegally every year. From there, many try to reach the European Union in search of jobs and a better life.
