China vows tough response to Tibet rumour-mongering
The Chinese government said on Thursday it will deal harshly with anyone spreading rumours to incite pro-Tibet protests.
Beijing: The Chinese government said on Thursday it will deal harshly with anyone spreading rumours to incite pro-Tibet protests.
The notice comes months before the Beijing Olympics, whose torch relay has sparked worldwide protests from people angry about China's policies in Tibet.
"We will severely root out and give no indulgence to people with ulterior motives who spread rumours or excite popular feelings," the government said in a statement posted on its website.
Human rights groups said more than 100 people have died in anti-Chinese riots in Tibet.
