The blast occurred in an abandoned kiln that was being used illegally to make fireworks, Xinhua said.
Sixteen people were working in the plant on Saturday when it exploded, wounding another two people, the owner of the plant, who has been detained, said.
Local police are investigating the explosion, said Xinhua.
