Bangkok: Thailand's Public Health Ministry has confirmed 43 new cases of swine flu, bringing the country's total to 705 cases. Somchai Chakrabhand of the Public Health Ministry said yesterday about half of the cases were in Bangkok.
The ministry said on Friday the flu was found at 79 schools and universities nationwide since the country's first case was confirmed in late April, prompting authorities to temporarily close dozens of schools for disinfecting.
Somchai said after-school tutoring institutes were also at risk because the classrooms are usually cramped and poorly ventilated.
Meanwhile, Singapore has quarantined 19 members of a Philippine youth football team after one player tested positive for swine flu ahead of a regional sports competition, officials said on Sunday.
