Husband is innocent, claims wife

New Delhi: Breaking her silence a day after her husband was arrested for the murder of their 14-year-old daughter and her domestic help, Nupur Talwar on Saturday said the two murders were the handiwork of an outsider.

"The killer is out there," Nupur told a TV channel, echoing her husband's claims that he was not the murderer.

Aarushi's father, Rajesh Talwar, moved a bail application in a Noida court citing health reasons.

Nupur, a dentist, also refuted allegations that her husband had killed Aarushi and servant Hemraj (45) to silence them over his extramarital affair with a fellow doctor, Anita Durani.

"It is utter nonsense, baseless. I know from my heart it is not true," she said.

"Rajesh always doted on our daughter. It is not possible. We were such a close family. We had planned a birthday party for Aarushi," said Nupur, her face bereft of emotion.

Throat slit

Aarushi would have been 15 yesterday. A Class 9 student of Delhi Public School in Noida, Aarushi was found dead with her throat slit and multiple stab injuries on her face, chest and neck on May 16.

"I will fight it out in the court for Rajesh. I will try my best to get justice for the family," Nupur said.

Rajesh Talwar, who was apparently in an inebriated state, killed his daughter Aarushi because she had stumbled upon his affair and had been discussing it with her friends, police claimed.

Talwar also objected to his daughter's alleged close relations with Hemraj, prompting him to kill them both, Gurdarshan Singh, inspector general of police, Meerut range, said.

Nupur dismissed outright the police's claims of a close relation between Aarushi and Hemraj.

"Hemraj was a servant whom I trusted. He was an elderly kind of person in the home. I do not think it would have been possible," Nupur said.

Nupur also tried to put a full stop on the claims of an affair between her husband and Anita Durani saying, "The Duranis are like an extended family to us."

Aarushi, the only daughter of the dentist couple, had dinner with her family the night she was killed and retired to her room in the three-bedroom apartment, the mother claimed.

Denying any "cover-up" of the two murders, Nupur lamented: "Can any mother sleep through the night knowing that her husband has killed her child?"

Meanwhile, moving a bail application Rajesh Talwar contended that he has been suffering from asthma and needs to be shifted to a hospital. He is currently on 14 days' judicial custody. The plea will come up for hearing tomorrow.

Anita Durani said that she was not having any extra marital relations with Rajesh Talwar.

"The police have not questioned me in the entire episode. Aarushi was like my daughter," she said.
