Mumbai: Even as Mumbai Police mulls over taking action against Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray, whose partymen beat up North Indian candidates appearing for a railway recruitment exam here on Sunday, the latter has challenged the authorities.
A non-bailable warrant has been issued by a court in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, against Thackeray for making derogatory remarks against North Indians, particularly Biharis. A police team from Jamshedpur delivered the warrant to Mumbai Police, which is expected to act on the court's order.
The court of First Class Judicial Magistrate A. K. Tiwary had issued the warrant on September 30, directing Thackeray to appear before the court on November 17.
"Raj Thackeray is on a tour to address public meetings in Maharashtra and will be returning to Mumbai only on November 25, just before Diwali," Atul Sarpotdar, the MNS general secretary, told Gulf News.
