New Delhi: Former telecom minister A Raja returned to Parliament on Wednesday to take up his role as lawmaker after spending 15 months in prison.

Raja was granted bail by a special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court on Tuesday and walked out of Delhi's Tihar Jail in the evening. The CBI has named Raja as the main accused in the 2008 2G spectrum allocation scam, estimated to be worth Rs. 1.76 trillion.

Waving to media persons, Raja entered the Parliament House and occupied one of the last row seats. He barely spent sometime in the House and left accompanied by some lawmakers of the party, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK).

Raja was received with fanfare in traditional Indian style at his Motilal Nehru Road government bungalow by enthusiastic workers of the DMK when he reached home for the first time since he was taken into custody on February 2 last year.

Preparations are being made to accommodate and feed visitors who may come to see him from his home town Permabalur and his constituency Nilgiris since the court has barred him from visiting his home state Tamil Nadu and his former office the Department of Telecom without its prior permission.
